Nathan Stewart works from his home studio in the Kootenays, British Columbia. Born in Haida Gwaii on the west coast of Canada and raised on the east coast in rural Nova Scotia. He graduated from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 2005, with a certificate in Visual Arts, a diploma in Graphic Design and a diploma in Metal Arts/ Jewlery. After graduating he moved to Montreal and started his own interior painting business which included painting murals as well as decorative and faux painting. He had a jewelry studio in his basement where he worked on commissions and participated in local markets selling his work. Nathan also followed his ongoing "self teaching" passion for traditional drawing, illustration and painting.
Nathan works in acrylic, oil, watercolor, pen and ink and pencil. Recently he has been designing and making silkscreens to print on clothing designed and produced by the Magnolia Project.
His inspiration comes from the natural world and all that it contains. Although the subject matter for his paintings vary he continues to be drawn to wildlife which has always been a huge interest and passion of his. Through his art he would like to bring attention to our delicate natural world and to help us understand how important it is to all of us.
